Wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has just announced he’s diving head-first into the NFT space by releasing an NFT project.

Bret Hart announced his NFT project by tweeting: “I’m excited to announce my upcoming NFT Project, Bret Hart’s Cartoon World! I’ve been working on this since the Spring and can’t wait to share the details with all of you. Our First Live AMA will be Monday @ 8PM EST on Discord.” Hart also invited his fans to join his Discord server, where he’ll share more information about this drop.
Last summer, reports circulated that the NFT startup WRARITIES was going to release an NFT project in collaboration with Hart. However, this never materialised. Instead, WRARITIES released officially licensed NFTs for pro-wrestling expert Jim Cornette.
Bret Hart joins the other wrestling legends who recently released NFTs. The Undertaker released his own NFTs, in collaboration with WWE, ahead of last year’s Wrestlemania. Tiers included Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The highest bidder received two front tickets for WrestleMania 38 or WrestleMania 39, alongside a personal message from the man himself. The Undertaker’s popularity is evident, as his NFTs sold out immediately.
On the other hand, John Cena wasn’t so lucky. His NFTs – released before SummerSlam as a bundle with collectable merchandise – sold poorly. He only managed to sell 37 NFTs. As a result, he publicly called the venture “a catastrophic failure”.
Bret Hart’s NFT venture comes right after WWE announced their deal with Fox Entertainment’s Blockchain Creative Labs division late last year. The contract continues to emphasise WWE’s ambition to expand its brand into the metaverse.
