This week, renowned contemporary sculptor Alex Seton joins the list of physical artists tapping into NFTs. His debut collection, launched via Droplt, is an Augmented Reality sculpture series inspired by the 2007 history-making Australian protests.
Alex Seton’s impressive NFT debut
Alex Seton, one of the most in-demand sculptors in Australia, has just combined NFTs and AR (Augmented Reality) for an impressive drop. The collection, titled “Standing Manikin Target Series,” is featuring eight digital versions of a physical marble sculpture. Besides its outstandingly detailed features, though, the NFT has a deep meaning too.
Accordingly, this humanoid sculpture is in fact the replica of a ballistics gel target dummy. Australian Special Forces Snipers used the object to hone their aim during the 2007 APEC protests in Sydney, Australia. As a result, the creation somewhat resembles a human figure, particularly in the lungs area – also known as the “kill zone.”
Now, 14 years after the tragic protests, Alex Seton used 3D scan technology to turn his physical carving into NFTs. The eight digital assets have different hues and models, becoming the unique memory of a historical event.
Of course, the virtual creations showcase the very best of Seton’s renowned design. Surprisingly, the multi-talented artist has been using sculpture, video, and installation to express “problematic” concepts in a memorable manner. Each of Seton’s artworks represents a life-changing idea, thus increasing its value over time.
The “Standing Manikin Target” collection is available via Droplt for 0.2 ETH per piece.
Droplt, a bridge between physical and digital art
Although it only launched in August, the NFT-focused marketplace Droplet already boasts an impressive portfolio of artists. This platform aims to bring physical artists into the crypto space. In fact, the company presents itself as a “space where many types of artists can meet and collectors can broaden their horizons.”
Some of the most notable artists currently featured are Julie Groshe, Andre Hemer, and AES+F. In fact, last November the company proudly confirmed that users can now create profiles and purchase their favorite artworks anytime.
In addition, the platform has also integrated with the Immutable Layer 2 solution. As a result, starting November 11th, buyers also became able to mint NFTs with reduced gas fees without compromising security.
The platform’s revolutionary concept is gaining popularity quickly, considering that many physical artists want to join the NFT space. One of the latest examples is Czech artist Patrik Habl, who launched his first NFT this month, collaborating with Calisto Network founder, Dexaran.
