Lushsux is an anonymous Australian street art icon, whose artworks have gained international acclaim. Based in Melbourne, Lushsux is credited as the world’s first official meme artist and the founder of the meme art movement. Artist LushSux was already a Street Art and Graffiti Icon
LushSux is known for his incredible portraits and strong messages. No one is safe from his larger than life caricatures. His notable works have included Putin, Melania Trump, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. He even made some murals dedicated to the internet’s favourite gorilla: Harambe. If any though, it is one of LushSux’ trump murals that you may be familiar with.
Decoding the artworks of LushSux
“Through memes, strategic trolling and his millions of fans, Lushsux echoes the voice of the information revolution like no other artist,” notes the artist’s Nifty Gateway bio. “His artwork is 0-hour-response to world events, often created to playfully manipulate the lumbering established media into an entertaining dialogue.”
Lushsux’s works are unique, mostly humorous, and often provocative. MakersPlace describes his artworks as “witty, satirical, raw, and thought-provoking”.
As someone who has always been interested in the crypto industry, the renowned artist soon forayed into the world of NFTs. In an interview with CoinJar, he recalled how he could hardly sleep in the weeks after he first learned about NFTs.
Lushsux, however, added that the majority of the artworks in the NFT ecosystem right now, including his, are “trash”. That said, he believes there is long-term value in investing in NFTs. He told Business Insider Australia that NFTs give artists “direct access to very rich collectors with limited gatekeeping and greedy middlemen.”
