Building games on the blockchain is no easy task, but it looks like Flow is getting a good one in Chainmonsters. Created by Maximillian Weber, the game has been in development for two years. Currently in alpha mode, it integrates with NFTs on the Flow blockchain to give an impressive real-time experience.

RPG gameplay on the blockchain
Inspired by turn-based RPGs and the mechanics of Pokemon, Chainmonsters integrates NFTs into the gameplay on a molecular level. The in-game economy is entirely based on Flow, with equipment, clothing and characters already available for purchase. Even special moves in combat can be influenced by NFTs, giving players an incredible amount of control over their experience.
The game itself has already undergone quite a few changes in its development, as graphics are refined and gameplay mechanics refined. A test version is available to play on iOS, Android and PC, though it is not yet connected to the mainnet, so purchases are still not “official.”
What’s next for Chainmonsters?
While a huge amount of work has already been done to prepare the game for release, there are further refinements to be done. There are more Chainmon to discover, too. And while the game mechanics are in good shape, there is always room for improvements. More testing is certainly in the cards.
Chainmonsters is the first game to be developed for the Flow blockchain. The chain, developed by Dapper Labs, is best known for NFT brands like NBA Top Shots. But with any luck, a new blockbuster brand will be joining their ranks soon.
