Rumours are circulating about Bored Ape Yacht Club’s future, after a pitch deck with a BAYC roadmap got leaked. However, Yuga Labs, the company behind BAYC, has dismissed this leaked roadmap.
Who started this rumour?
It all started after The Block reporter Ryan Weeks published a story that highlights BAYC’s upcoming plans. In the article, Week claims Yuga Labs are currently working to raise hundreds of millions. This is because Yuga Labs and BAYC are working to create a game-focused metaverse.
In the article, Weeks said that “Yuga Labs, the business behind the heavily hyped Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, is hoping to raise hundreds of millions of dollars by selling off virtual plots of land.” 200,000 plots will be distributed across two sales in March and August this year. The article also hinted at Animoca Brand’s involvement in this venture.
According to Week’s article in the Block, Yuga Labs and BAYC are working on a game-focused metaverse, named MetaRPG. “There will be a system — described as an “in-game app store” — that will allow players to create characters using NFTs they own or from scratch, outfit them (again with NFTs), and use them in games, according to the deck.” Furthermore, Weeks confirmed the much-rumoured APECoin, as well as a planned app store. The article also revealed that the kickoff event will take place this month.
Right after Week’s article was published, BAYC member King BlackBored also tweeted the same documents featured in the article. King Black Bored commented: “NGL im a lil sad this leaked, i like surprises but here’s more.”
Yuga Labs and Bored Ape Yacht Club’s response
Following the leak, BAYC co-founder Gargamel took to Discord to clarify the situation. Turns out the pitch deck is an outdated one!
Gargamel wrote, “There are a lot of things in there that have already changed; and plenty more things that will change because f* doing expected things.” Co-founder Gordon Goner also tweeted: “F* doing expected things. Back to the lab.” While Gargamel and Goner’s cryptic messages may indeed mean the pitch deck is no longer valid, there is a slim chance that some points mentioned may still materialise.
Yuga Labs has recently expanded its Web3 empire. A few days ago, the company acquired the IP rights of CryptoPunks and Meebits collections from Larva Labs.
