CryptoBatz Discord becomes the next target of NFT phishing scams

    By Ross WardropJanuary 22, 2022Updated:September 21, 20223 Mins Read

The Discord of Ozzy Osbourne’s NFT collection, CryptoBatz, is the latest victim of an NFT phishing scam. Unfortunately, these have become more common and people have been scammed out of $1000s on each occasion. In this case, a URL tricked followers to visit a fake Discord.

    About the Incident

This incident was to do with a domain change from the project, it originally started as discord.gg/cryptobatznft. However, it is now accessed through the discord.gg/cryptobatz link.

When the change was made, scammers jumped on the opportunity to set up a fake Discord of the project with the old link. Also, the project’s team didn’t go through the process of deleting tweets with the old links until it was a bit late. Therefore, these old Tweets led to the links that directed followers to a Discord controlled by scammers.

Most of the Tweets were eventually removed yesterday, on January 21st.

Overall, the situation is slightly confusing. It’d be a lot easier if they had kept the link the same, or been extremely clear with the change including deleting Tweets.

Upon clicking the scam link, the invite panel for the fake Discord showed the total number of members as 1,330, an indication of the number of people who could potentially have been fooled by the scam, per The Verge. Users were also prompted to connect their wallets in order to ‘gain full verification’.

    About CryptoBatz

CryptoBatz is an already released NFT project which grew in major hype based on the project’s founder, English singer, Ozzy Osbourne. It publically launched a couple of days ago, on the 20th of January.

They built a large group of fans and followers through perfect marketing and taking advantage of their big-name celebrity owner. They currently sit on a current follower count of 94,000+ on Twitter. Also, their Discord sits at 93,000+.

In addition to this, they have announced several partnerships with many major NFT collections.

Recently, they had their reveal and the floor currently sits at around 1.5 ETH on OpenSea. Prior to the launch the price varied but was at around 2 ETH for most of the time.

    About Ozzy Osbourne

John ‘Ozzy’ Osbourne is an English singer and songwriter. Particularly, he rose to prominence in the 1970s as the lead singer of Black Sabbath. He has been active since 1967 and is still singing to this day. He is now married to British-American TV personality, Sharon Levy who is now Sharon Osbourne. Sharon is famous for appearing on TV singing shows. Ozzy is also a prominent solo artist and combined with his Black Sabbath songs, he has a total of 100 million album sales.
