There’s a new entrant to the evolving GameFi sector: Kart Racing League (KRL). GameFi refers to play-to-earn blockchain games that enable players to earn cryptocurrencies. As blockchain gaming continues to gather steam, KRL aims to revolutionize the sector.
As the name suggests, Kart Racing League is a “fast-paced fun-centric” kart racing game that uses 3D NFT characters.
“The fact that we are using 3D NFTs is a big thing that we haven’t seen elsewhere,” Joseph Rubin, Co-founder & CEO, Blue Monster Games Inc, the game’s parent company, told Cryptopolitan. “Also, never before has there been a crypto kart racing game.”
Kart Racing League: Gameplay
Kart Racing League brings together the best of arcade and competitive style kart racing. While the game is inspired by Sonic and Mario Kart, in terms of NFTs, it largely draws from the popular play-to-earn game Axie Infinity.
In the game, players use 3D characters or Racer NFTs to compete in races. These Racers are “speed-loving amphibians” belonging to an alternate reality called the Kooopa realm. These beings were forced out of their home and then teleported to the Earth.
Each racer is unique, with varying attributes such as Speed, Mass, Handling, Durability, and Acceleration. Players can buy these NFTs from the marketplace. However, players can also join the free-to-play option or a scholarship.
“We will have the world’s first NFT marketplace where users can borrow and lend their NFTs to others,” Rubin said. “Players can loan their Racers out to those that can’t afford to buy one themselves or those that just want to try the game temporarily.”
Each race will have up to eight characters competing with each other in a series of laps. Players can use five power-ups during the race, which have various functions. These are Repair, Bullets, Guard, Missile, and Turbo.
Play-to-earn mechanics: EoC and KRL Tokens
The game’s play-to-earn mechanics allows players to earn in multiple ways. For one, they can compete in multiplayer races to top leaderboards. Winners of each race will win rewards in the form of Essence of Creation (EoC), the in-game currency.
Alternately, they can evolve their characters and sell them on the marketplace. Every time a character is evolved, an upgrade version with improved attributes will be created. For this, the players will need EOC. A single Racer can go through three stages of evolution: Natural, Fledgling, and Champion.
Furthermore, the highest-ranked players in the game’s seasonal ranking system will win Kart Racing League tokens or KRL Tokens (previously called KOO tokens). However, there is no winner takes all system. Instead, the players are rewarded for their skills and efforts. As an ERC-20 governance token, KRL token gives holders governance rights and fee-sharing capabilities. Players can also stake their tokens to earn rewards. Additionally, players can loan their NFTs to other players on the marketplace to earn a fixed income.
Currently, Blue Monster Games Inc is relaunching the KRL tokens on Polygon, to reduce gas fees. They aim to launch the NFT marketplace in the next two weeks, where 90,000 Racers will be up for sale. The game, built in less than 10 weeks, will launch in early October.
