In collaboration with Theta Labs, Katy Perry is launching an NFT Collection in Q4 of 2021. The iconic pop star royalty is the next artist to stake a claim on NFTs. The pieces will be based on her upcoming “Play” residency in Las Vegas this December.
Katy Perry’s NFT Drop
Katy Perry will also acquire a minority interest in Theta Labs, alongside her talent agency, Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Thus, she’s in it for the long run. Theta Labs is one of Theta’s latest enterprise validators. The Network’s NFT marketplace, ThetaDrop, was specifically built for media and entertainment. It uses its own native blockchain making it significantly different from other players.
The NFT Collection will involve the sale of digital collectibles and live experiences derived from her upcoming residency at the new Resorts World Las Vegas hotel. This is the first-ever Las Vegas residency to feature exclusive NFTs commemorating the events. This makes it a rare opportunity for Katy Perry fans to score her collectibles.

The California Girls and I Kissed a Girl hitmaker shared her excitement on Twitter. She said, “I’m both excited and curious to be launching my first ever NFTs later this year with Theta Network. This is a new, unique opportunity to connect with my fans around the world even if they aren’t with me in Las Vegas. I can’t wait to dive in with the Theta team on all the exciting and memorable creative pieces, so my fans can own a special moment of my residency that’s both a digital collectible as well as an IRL experience.”
Major Artists Steering Music NFT Industry
Celebrities, athletes and other prominent figures entered the NFT Space as ambassadors and advocates. Now they are leading the charge and taking on management roles. For example, Paris Hilton joined Origin Protocol as an Advisor and Investor. Using her expertise, she will be supporting the platform’s mission of making NFTs mainstream and delivering value to top celebrities and more.
Theta Labs echoed the excitement of Perry. Mitch Liu, co-founder and CEO, shared how this partnership will contribute to Theta Lab’s vision. “With the help of CAA and Katy’s management team, we’re charting a course towards reaching well beyond crypto enthusiasts to millions of music, media and entertainment fans around the world. In the end, we see this as an important milestone towards a million daily transactions on the Theta network.”
The major recording stars are generally considered a late bloomer in Music NFTs. According to reports, independent artists and brands made 57.1% of music-related NFT sales. This is because Independent artists tend to have fewer collaborators to settle with and less intermediaries to gate-keep their decisions.
Record label artists need to satisfy several entities before being able to mint NFTs. For example, Jay-Z filed a lawsuit against his former partner to assert his rights on his first major album. However, the paradigm is starting to shift and major-label stars are finally catching up starting with Katy, Jay-Z and the launch of music platforms like OneOf and S!NG Platform.
