An NFT milkshake minted by a Michigan bistro has sold for $1,045. Almost definitely the most expensive dairy treat ever, sceptics should note the Supreme Strawberry is will outlive other shakes, despite the original having melted.
Can You Drink an NFT Milkshake?
Based on the image itself we’re not sure anyone could drink the Supreme Strawberry anyway. That’s because it’s piled high with more than milk and ice cream, and is a full sugar-packed meal in itself.
However, this isn’t the only reason you won’t be downing this one any time soon. A total of 100 NFTs have been minted of this dentist’s nightmare, from a 3D rendering created with 300 high res photos of the dessert, which is the brainchild of Garrido’s Bistro, in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan.
The eatery has been involved in non-fungibles before. Back in April, a similar concoction was minted and hit a value of $497 within a day. One month later, it sold for $1,044.95. We’re not expecting this next batch to reach that peak, simply because there are more of them, but it gives an idea of their perceived value.
What’s the Point in a Milkshake You Can’t Drink?
According to a report on Hour Detroit, Garrido’s Bistro co-owner Vanessa Gonzalez believes NFTs could become “the equal of prepaying for a real-world milkshake to drive diners to the restaurant.” The whole thing is effectively a crypto publicity stunt to raise awareness for a business that has been badly impacted by the pandemic.
This is far from the first firm experimenting with NFTs and food, or indeed drink. Stella Artois and Marcus Samuelsson created tokens from fried chicken recipes just last week. Meanwhile, VaynerNFT was recently responsible for the first-ever non-fungible beer thanks to a partnership with Budweiser.
