Osita Iheme’s “The King of Memes” NFT Collection
Iheme, professionally known as PawPaw, has taken the internet by storm by providing comic relief through his trending memes. A meme of Ostia Iheme can express regret, confusion, joy so they are increasingly versatile.
The Meme King quickly invited his fans to join the auction. He said, “Hello everyone, I just teamed up with rarible.com to release my genesis NFT of my viral memes. Over the years, my memes have brought laughter and joy to so many people. I appreciate all the support. You can purchase my NFTs at rarible.com/pawpaw.”
The NFT Collections features 5 of his trademark memes. The first offering is “Sober Reflection” which is described as “the face you make when you’re having a sober reflection about life or a situation.” Then, there’s “Stressed” and “OMO,” which play around with the expression when you’re stressed or when things are not working out as planned. These first three NFTs have been minted with 30 copies each.
Meanwhile, the other two memes are 1/1 offerings because celebrities and brands have adopted them. “The King of African Memes” displays the face you make when you calculate your earnings and it’s showing a profit. This meme has been used by rapper 50 Cent. Finally, the meme “trying to figure things out” has been used by several companies such as Fenty Beauty, Bleacher Report, and Genius.
Reception so far
Iheme shared his excitement over this NFT project. He said, “It is wonderful to know that your work is there and it shows that for life, it’s going to be there. I am delighted to see that my work is out there giving people joy and people using it to express their mind and relax.”
The auction is still ongoing on Rarible and it’s delivering the expected results. Omo with 30 copies is now sold out. On the other hand, Sober Reflection and Stressed have 3 and 2 NFTs left, respectively. As for the 1/1 offerings, the auction is still open for 3 more days.
Memes and NFTs
Memes pulled in astronomical prices during the NFT boom. Disaster girl generated $500,000 in sales. Charlie Bit me viral video and Nyan Cat also did well at $760,000 and $600,000, respectively. However, there’s a near-monopoly in the Meme and NFT Space. Disaster Girl, Charlie Bit Me, Overly Attached Girlfriend and Creepy Chan share the same buyer. Farzin Fardin Fard, a music recording studio owner in Dubai, owns the NFTs for these OG Memes.
NFTs provide an opportunity for memes to be tokenized. Despite the market condition, platforms remain bullish on the synergy between memes and NFTs. In fact, Meme.com landed a $5 Million investment to build a platform that will allow users to create, track and monetize memes easily. Then there’s NetGems, an agency specializing in setting up OG Memes as NFTs.
