Samsung, in partnership with Theta Labs, will give away NFTs to celebrate the launch of the Galaxy S22 smartphone and Galaxy Tab S8. The offer is available only for South Korean customers who pre-order either of the two devices. Customers can claim their free Samsung NFTs via Theta network’s NFT marketplace, ThetaDrop.
Samsung NFT to offer membership benefits
According to Theta Labs CEO and co-founder, Mitch Liu, the NFTs come with “unique customer benefits.”
“We plan to provide ongoing membership benefits and privileges to Galaxy customers who own a Samsung Theta commemorative NFT and look forward to building a long-term community among members,” he added. However, neither brand has revealed more details about the benefits.
After the purchase, customers will receive a unique code via the “Samsung Members” app. Using this, customers can register on ThetaDrop to claim their free Samsung NFT. Basically, each user will receive an “unopened NFT container” during the offer period. Once the period ends, they can open the container to unlock the unique NFT. All NFTs are generative art pieces algorithmically created from random attributes.
The tech giant’s foray into blockchain space
Samsung has been actively focusing on emerging technologies like blockchain and fintech. For instance, back in 2019, Samsung NEXT, Samsung’s venture vertical, invested in Theta Labs. Theta Labs is a decentralized video delivery platform that has developed the Theta Network blockchain. It has also developed Theta.tv to offer decentralized live streaming services.
Moreover, Samsung partnered with Sotheby’s for the latter’s “Natively Digital” NFT auction early last year. More recently, it also launched smart TVs with NFT implementation. Touted as the world’s first TV screen-based NFT explorer’, the feature enables users to view their NFTs in superior quality.
