Cricket has become the latest major sport to dive into NFTs. Following the footsteps of basketball, baseball, and soccer, Rario launches on the Polygon network as an NFT platform dedicated to Cricket. This platform allows fans to buy, sell and trade historic, licensed moments featuring many of the biggest leagues and superstar players the sport has to offer.
Who are Polygon?
Polygon is a layer two Ethereum blockchain that currently partners with many big-name crypto companies and projects. Partners of theirs include Opensea, The Sandbox and many more. Additionally, they have 5x more gaming and NFT Dapps than any other chains outside of Ethereum. Evidently, Polygon’s speed, efficiency and value for money makes it the perfect platform for the Rario Marketplace.
What makes Cricket a good fit for NFTs on Polygon?
Cricket was bound to join the NFT space due to its astronomical viewership numbers worldwide. For example, 1.6 billion people watched the 2019 Men’s Cricket World Cup. Of this number, 32% were between 18-34 years old. To clarify, this age range is similar to the audience of NFTs: A younger demographic. Making a cricket launch in the NFT space obvious, and Polygon is the platform leading the way.
Sports NFT platforms have proven to be extremely popular in the space, most notably Dapper Labs’ owned NBA Topshot. They have hosted over $700,000,000 in total sales in under a year- despite their legal trouble. Polygon co-founder, Sandeep Nailwal, hopes to have similar success in the cricket world. He released a statement saying: “We believe Rario is laying down the foundations for making digital collectibles the most prized asset for sports fans in India and across the world”
