The Walking Dead is releasing NFTs to commemorate the 11th and final season of the series. The NFTs are part of a multi-year strategy to expand The Walking Dead’s universe. As a result, the post-apocalyptic series will stay alive and flourish in the metaverse.
There will be multiple The Walking Dead NFT collections. The first collection will launch on February 20 at 1 p.m. ET – hours before the premiere of the shows’ ‘Part 2 of 3’ episode. The collection includes a total of 1,000 generative art NFTs of characters from the franchise, with each NFT priced at $50. Additionally, it will include 750 original animations inspired by iconic The Walking Dead scenes, each costing $250.
The first drop is the Walker Access Pass – available for only 24 hours after the initial drop. It functions as an evergreen pass that grants special access to a members-only channel on Discord and whitelists pass holders for all public drops.
The second drop is the Commonwealth Pack: a pack of two that includes the animated NFT as well as a custom Trooper avatar. This will be dropped alongside the Daryl Pack; the Hospital Pack; the Carol Pack; the Survivor Series and the Wild Card Series.
The Walking Dead’s television network, AMC, is working with Orange Comet on these NFTs. Moreover, the NFTs will be minted on Eluvio – an eco-friendly blockchain protocol – as well as Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible.
This is not the first time that The Walking Dead has gotten involved in the metaverse. Last year, The Walking Dead collaborated with The Sandbox; a move that inspired other TV shows and entertainment companies to follow suit.
