According to Mendelsohn, the food and beverage industry needs to modernise. Another key point is that it also needs to become more community-focused. Mendelsohn sees the metaverse as the perfect way to solve these two issues. This is why he and Colicchio founded CHFTYPizzas.
Actually, they didn’t give a lot of information about CHFTYPizzas. However, co-founder Spike Mendelsohn explained that each virtual pizza slice will give the owner access to an online community. It will also connect NFT owners with celebrity chefs and other food fans.
Mendelsohn said, “We invite you to grab a virtual slice and build a community that is focused on connecting holders with their favourite chefs and foods. From metaverse integration, to pizza parties around the world, let’s connect over something we’ve all love, pizza!”
Netizens had mixed reactions to CHFTYPizzas. Undoubtedly, some people criticized Colicchio for missing the peak of the NFT craze. At the same time, others were excited for these brand new food NFTs and an online foodie community.
Food NFTs beyond Tom Colicchio
Judge on Top Chef, Tom Colicchio, joins the list of other restauranteurs and food chains that started using NFTs as promotion tools. Earlier this year, Taco Bell launched taco-themed GIFs and images on the NFT marketplace Rarible. Cordia is developing a restaurant-themed generative NFT programme. McDonald’s also released 188 Big Mac NFTs. Beverage-giants Budweiser launched a series of 1,936 non-fungible tokens to celebrate the anniversary of its first-ever beer shortly after that.
Clearly, the world can’t get enough of food NFTs! Only time will tell whether CHFTYPizzas will be the project that cements the food and beverage industry’s position in the metaverse.
