Ukraine has canceled a planned NFT airdrop in support of their armed forces! Mykhailo Fedorov, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine announced that they will release an NFT collection to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces instead.
Previously, the Ukrainian government promised an airdrop on March 3rd at 6 p.m. GMT +2. Basically, all crypto fund donors would be eligible. The announcement came after they received millions in crypto donations to support their country against the Russian invasion.
Mixed Reactions in the Crypto Community as Ukraine Cancels Airdrop
The change in their decision garnered several reactions from the NFT and crypto community. Most were positive and in support of the Ukrainian government. Some even suggested that the collection include the most beautiful parts of Ukraine – hoping to promote tourism to Ukraine after the war ends. Others want to see their war heroes as NFTs instead.
However, some were disappointed and -frankly – a little insensitive about the Ukrainian airdrop in the first place. Tron Founder Justin Sun recently thought that it was “unfair” that the TRON community weren’t eligible for any airdrop after donating more than $1.3 million. Several NFT influencers called him out and asked him to think more about those suffering in Ukraine than the airdrop.
There is no target date for the release of the NFT collection but the crypto community agrees to support Ukraine whether by supporting Ukraine NFT artists or by donating crypto to Ukraine’s Official Wallet Addresses.
