Wicked Craniums, a new player in the NFT space, is making waves in the market! To date, the project has amassed over $8.25 million in sales, reported Bitcoinist.
The Ethereum-based NFT project first launched on June 20 with 10,762 NFTs—all of which were sold out within the first 30 minutes! Since then, it has raked in millions in secondary sales on OpenSea.

What is Wicked Craniums?
Wicked Craniums is an algorithmically generated NFT project featuring cartoon skeletons, which belong to a fictional island called Osseous. The skeletons come with unique traits such as headgear, clothes, and body, from a list of 180 attributes. These uniques traits, decided by an algorithm, make the craniums an attractive collectible.
Originally, each Cranium was priced at 0.06 ETH. Within hours after the NFTs sold out, their owners fetched 5x returns, as the floor price went up to 0.3 ETH, reported The Defiant. In less than two days since its debut, the project generated $4 million in secondary sales. Back then, it was also ranked No. 2 on OpenSea.
These NFTs offer more than just a skeleton. Along with the NFT, the buyer also gets a ticket to The Cradle, an exclusive social media platform. Here, users can add an image, bio, their social media handles, and interact with other members.
Their popularity has soared so much so that collectors are even exchanging physical assets for Craniums. Early this month, M Shadows, the lead singer of heavy metal group Avenged Sevenfold, exchanged his signature “The Dark Knight” guitar for a Cranium. Called Synyster Gates, the Cranium features a psychedelic body and a saint headgear. The sale signals that these wicked looking skeletons are on the path to becoming one of the greatest NFT collectibles.

Wicked Cranium #1875: the most expensive Cranium
As in the case with CryptoPunks, Wicked Craniums’ value depends on its rarity. For instance, ones with icy blue skin, a rare trait, has fetched millions.
Having said that, currently, Wicked Cranium #1875 holds the spot for the most expensive Cranium ever sold. It was sold for $38,000 (19 ETH) last month and is currently up for sale on OpenSea for around $200,000 (100 ETH).
A rare Cranium, it features a skeleton with a green body and yellow eyes. In addition, its joints are held together by strings. Its most striking feature is a jewelled crown—which resembles that worn by The Queen—that sits on top of its head.

Similarly, several other expensive Craniums are currently on sale on the NFT marketplace. Wicked Cranium #2664, for instance, is available for around $77,000 (39 ETH). It features a bloody skeleton with popping eyes and a saint’s clothes. It also holds a rose in its mouth.
Meanwhile, Wicked Cranium #283, featuring a psychedelic body, khaki jacket, and lazer eyes are up for around $200,000 (100 ETH).
