Zeneca offends Crypto Twitter after claim about “Nigerian Princes”

Popular influencer and founder of the NFT space, the ZenAcademy, Zeneca is under fire from crypto Twitter for his somewhat stereotypical comments about Nigeria.

Screenshot of a tweet by popular crypto Twitter influencer Zeneca, detailing how he wants people to stop supporting anon devs, and that Nigerian princes are rich enough
Zeneca raised a legitimate question about the importance of unmasking NFT project developers but some were uneasy with his Nigerian Prince reference.

In a tweet to his 185 thousand followers, he asked, “Can we as a community please stop aping into projects with anon devs/teams?”

This is an incredibly legitimate argument, and following the gold rush of the 2021 NFT craze, many in crypto Twitter are now concerned with where the money is going.

Although the second part of Zeneca’s tweet, stating “The Nigerian Princes are rich enough”, raised a few eyebrows. In fact, some people were quick to point out its stereotypes.

However, Zeneca responded nobly, offering his sincere apologies to anyone offended. He went on to say I was referencing what I thought was a well-known meme/piece of internet history, and it was intended jokingly, not maliciously, and not with prejudice. I’ll try to be better. We’re all one race: human”.

Furthermore, it is good to see someone act quickly to address these issues in the Crypto Twitter space.

Crypto Twitter can end the cult of anonymous developers.

Zeneca has an important message here. As a community, we need to think more about the projects that we invest in. Many projects have successful mints and then die out, with the founders offering little support. Crypto Twitter can be incredibly influential, so it is good that people are asking these questions.

Is it time to stop investing in Anonymous developer NFT projects? @Adamagb and Zeneca believe so.

Recently, the NFT project, Frosties, did the same. According to another popular crypto Twitter user, @adamagb, the anonymous developer made over $1.2 million. The developer then went on to delete everything.
Now that people like Zeneca are speaking up, people will begin to realise the importance of a doxxed development team.
