Lago Mar Crystal Lagoon in Houston, Texas, now offers NFT season passes. It is the first time a major US attraction sold passes using NFT, according to Lagoon Development Company’s CEO Uri Man.
Lago Mar Crystal Lagoon Houston Releases NFTs as Virtual Passes
The Lago Mar lagoon is a relatively new development. Since its opening in 2020, it has become a staple summer destination in Houston. According to its official page, around 80,000 people bought day passes to visit the lagoon in 2021. Now, the 12-acre waterpark has released passes as NFTs.
As of writing, the park offers four NFT season passes. Each of which shows a different video of people enjoying Texas’s largest lagoon. The NFT highlighted an activity that corresponds to a bonus perk NFT holders can enjoy.
For instance, the “Sailing NFT” gives its holders special sailing privileges on Lago Mar. The three other NFTs give access to aquastrike, kayaking, or paddleboarding.
Most importantly, no matter which NFT a person purchases, they can enjoy unlimited access to Lago Mar Crystal Lagoon until the end of this year. A few of the many benefits included with this NFT season ticket are discounts on food and drink, a one-time pass to bring four guests to Lago Mar, and special seats and invitations to live entertainment.
Currently, each Lago Mar NFT pass costs between 0.05 and 0.06 ETH (or $150 – $180). The sale for these virtual season passes will end on May 4th.
The Texas City lagoon is just one of many businesses testing the utilities of NFTs in ticketing. For instance, TravelX And Air Europa also partnered to offer NFTickets for flights.
Also, MGM Resort is hosting the first NFT-ticketed event for the world-famous dance crew, Jabbawockeez.
These examples only show that NFTs can be an innovative solution to ticketing issues such as manufacturing costs, forgery, and fraud.
