Ryder Ripps and Pauly revealed their lawyers representing them in the BAYC case: WilmerHale’s Alfred Steiner and Louis Tompros. The duo has been involved in other NFT-related lawsuits, including Matt Furie’s Pepe case. Together, the team will continue their controversial NFT BAYC court case against Yuga Labs.
Who are Ryder Ripps’ lawyers for the BAYC case?
On July 13th, Ryder Ripps tweeted a press release of the new lawyers to represent him and Pauly in the controversial BAYC case. The lead counsel is none other than Louis Tompros from the WilmerHale firm. Surprisingly, he had recently represented Matt Furie, who created Pepe The Frog, in his NFT-related copyright cases. Tompros is a Harvard graduate with experience in deepfakes, copyright laws, and memes.
Accordingly, Tompros’ co-counsel in court is Alfred Steiner from the Meister & Steiner firm. Steiner, who also graduated from Harvard, has over 20 years of experience in intellectual property and copyright niches.
Together, the two attorneys will represent Ryder Ripps and Pauly in their BAYC case against Yuga Labs.
Why is Yuga Labs against the RRBAYC NFT collection?
The Ryder Ripps BAYC (RRBAYC) NFT collection is part of Ripps’ stance against the original Bored Ape Yacht Club holders. Basically, he has been minting BAYC collectibles under a new collection. However, he uses the same Bored Ape characters – all part of his protest against the OG BAYC. You can read more about his plan right here.
Moving forward, Yuga Labs filed a lawsuit against Ryder Ripps for “trademark infringement, unjust enrichment, and false advertising”. To clarify, Yuga Labs accused Ripps of using their trademarks unjustly.
Right now, Ryder Ripps seems ready to fight back with his two new attorneys. While we wait for the BAYC case to unfold, you can read our post here to get an insight.
