DC’s superheroes join the non-fungible token craze
This October, DC Comics brings our favorite superheroes onto the NFT scene. For this project, the legendary comic book publisher teamed up with Palm NFT Studio – a new environmentally-friendly ecosystem.
According to a press release, the first NFT collection will feature DC Comics’ most beloved superheroes. Starting October 5th, collectors will enjoy Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Latern NFTs, among others.
What’s more, the company will offer n NFT for free to everybody signing up for DC Fandome – DC’s annual virtual event. Dubbed as ‘the ultimate DC fan experience,’ the event will be live-streamed globally on Octber 16th.
In addition, collectors can receive a secondary NFT from the collection with a simple social media share.
During a press release, DC revealed that there will be three different rarities for each character: common, rare, and legendary. As a result, each famous comic book character will feature three distinct NFT covers.
DC Comics NFTs – a hit-or-miss collection?
This year, we’ve seen some of the biggest hero movies join the NFT trend with exclusive collections, James Bond included. In fact, X-Men and Batman comic book creator Neal Adams is even launching a comic book NFT based on a play-to-earn video game!
Moreover, last summer Marvel has launched its own NFT marketplace on Binance Smart Chain. There, you can digitalize your own artworks and earn $MV, the native token of the ecosystem. Reportedly, its innovative play-to-earn system has been enjoying plenty of success ever since!
Judging by this data, it’s no wonder DC Comics decided to join the NFT trend. After all, the comic book industry embraced the idea of collectibles a long time ago. According to Chief Creative Officer Lee, non-fungible tokens have opened new doors towards superhero entertainment:
“We spent a lot of time on how to translate and adapt these classic covers into a 21st century format such as NFTs. This drop pays homage to our 87 year history while visualizing a future in which NFTs play a foundational role in novel ways of interacting with DC content and unlocking new experiences.”
