10 Female-Led NFT Collections To Check Out For International Women’s Day

It is no secret that women are severely under-represented in the NFT world. Not only are there just a handful of female-led NFT projects, but there are also very few projects that feature women in their artwork. To be perfectly honest, the NFT space has become yet another boy’s club—a lot of men creating male-centric NFTs for other men. 

As Asian-American artist, Drue Kataoka told NFTevening in an earlier interview, “While NFTs have been heralded as a democratizing force in the art world, the space has allowed for the same systemic biases we see in our society today to proliferate.”

But, there’s good news. Recognising these shortcomings in the space, several women have come forward to release impressive collections representing women. The NFTs aside, many of these projects also work towards empowering women in the community and beyond. Some of these also boast celebrity backing and are raking in millions of dollars in sales volume. 

Today, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, we are highlighting 10 such female-led NFT collections transforming the industry for the better. 

Top Female-Led NFT Collections You Must Know

Here’s our pick of the best female-led NFT collections in the space:

1. World of Women – the hottest female-led NFT project

Launched in July last year, World of Women is one of the hottest female-led NFT projects in the market. The collection features 10,000 unique and diverse female NFT avatars which have now become a favourite among celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Eva Longoria. 

“I’ve always drawn women and with my art, I’ve always tried to put women in the spotlight, show women empowerment, and highlight diversity,” Yam Karkai, artist and co-founder of the project, told NFTevening in a recent interview. With World of Women, she hopes to bring change to the wider NFT community.

As a matter of fact, supporting one-of-one crypto artists and women-focused charities are two of the project’s core missions. For example, the WoW Fund, set up from 15% of the primary sales, highlights emerging NFT artists in the space. Apart from this, the project supports a number of women-led organisations and sustainability-focused organisations, including Code Green NFT, She’s the First, and Too Young To Wed. 

Well, the numbers speak for themselves. At the time of writing, World of Women’s floor price was at 7.15 ETH. Besides, its total trading volume had crossed 55,000 ETH or about $140 million at the time of writing. 

2. Sad Girls Bar

Sad Girls Bar is the perfect choice for those into stylish, monochromatic artworks. Female artist Glam Beckett dropped the NFT collection in August 2021. It includes 10,000 NFTs generated from over 350 traits. Some of these traits include piercings, crazy hairstyles, or even a drink. The collection speaks to those into a gothic aesthetic and is quite relatable. Actually, the collection truly reflects Beckett’s art style revolving around themes of love and death, melancholy and loneliness, dark romance, and witchy vibes.

Other companion collections—Skeletongue and Sad Cat—soon followed suit. In fact, those who collect all three NFTs from the project get a chance to create a “super NFT”. Along with this, the Sad Girls Bar NFT project offers holders several benefits, including a future Sad Girls Bar in the metaverse. It also plans to transfer 10 ETH to “Women Side by Side”, a peer support program for women delivered by Mind and Agenda. 

3. Boss Beauties

Another top female-led NFT project making waves in the space is Boss Beauties. The project is the brainchild of Lisa Mayer, who has been educating and empowering women and girls for the past 10 years through her venture, My Social Canvas. Boss Beauties is an extension of this mission and parts of the proceeds from the sale support young women through mentorship programs and scholarships. Launched in September last year, the project has achieved some impressive feats, including becoming the first-ever NFT to be displayed at the New York Stock Exchange. 

Essentially, Boss Beauties is a collection of 10,000 diverse female avatars in different, empowering roles. Across the collection, you’ll see doctors, astronauts, presidents, moms, soldiers, and more. Today, the collection has amassed 12,500 ETH or about $31 million in trading volume on OpenSea. What’s more, several celebrities like Eva Longoria, Jade Roper Tolbert, and Morgan Lake are proud owners of Boss Beauties NFTs.

4. 8SIAN 

Similar to female representation, Asian representation is also extremely lacking in the NFT industry. Amid this, the 8SIAN NFT project is trying to solve both these problems with its collection of 8,888 Asian women NFTs. The project, founded by Nicole, aims to “represent and showcase the many cultures and heritage of Asia in the virtual world”. True to their mission, the NFTs showcase diverse women from various Asian cultures.

The 8SIAN NFT collection provides a number of interesting perks as well. For one, there is the community-led fund to host contests and events, support charities and emerging artists, and more. But the main highlight is the plans to integrate the project into the metaverse. In the near future, members can expect an 8SIAN Museum, 3D metaverse-ready 8SIANs, and Asian-inspired digital wearables!

5. Fame Lady Squad

Fame Lady Squad probably has the most interesting origin story ever. They launched in July 2021 as the first female-led NFT project in the space. Of course, for this reason, the project quickly gained traction. However, there was a catch—the “female” developers turned out to be, erm, Russian men. Needless to say, this created massive outrage in the space, following which the founders handed over the project to key community members. 

Bored Becky (Ashley), Data Lady (Saul), and NFTIgnition (Danielle), who currently helms the project, relaunched Fame Lady Squad in late August. What’s more, the collection, featuring 8,888 unique ladies, is one of the first community-run collectibles projects. Today, the project’s core mission is to support women of all backgrounds in the crypto and NFT space. You can get yourself an NFT from the collection on OpenSea for 0.175 ETH floor. 

6. The Flower Girls

Graphic designer and illustrator, Varvara Alay launched the Flower Girls NFT collection in December last year. The Ethereum based collection includes 10,000 unique NFTs generated from over 950 hand-drawn attributes. Alay’s surrealistic and abstract artwork makes the collection unique in the flooded collectibles market. Centred around the themes of natural beauty, purity, and diversity, the NFTs are nothing short of exquisite fine art pieces. 

At its core, the Flower Girls project’s mission is to support children. To facilitate this, the team will donate 20% of primary and secondary sales to multiple children’s charities. Apart from this, they have also dedicated 5% of primary and secondary sales to collect children’s NFT art. 

In less than three months since its launch, Flower Girls has already amassed over $10 million in OpenSea sales volume. Its celebrity supporters range from Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Eva Longoria to Gary Vaynerchuk and Brie Larson. 

7. Women Rise

Women Rise is another relatively new female-led NFT collection in the space. Yet, it’s already supported by celebrities like Gary Vaynerchuk, who minted 10 NFTs during the project’s December launch. In a short span of time, the project has raked in over $13 million in OpenSea trade volume. Acclaimed visual artist, Maliha Abidi created the collection of 10,000 NFTs representing women across the globe. A Pakistani-American artist, Abidi has been advocating for social justice through her art. 

In fact, the collection celebrates “activists, artists, scientists, coders and many others rising to make the world a better place!” A primary goal of the project is to support gender equality causes in the world. For this, they have dedicated 7.5% of the proceeds to international organisations that fight for women’s rights, gender equity, girls’ education, and more. 

8. Remarkable Women – the latest female-led NFT project 

Created by Canadian illustrator Rachel Winter, Remarkable Women is a tribute to the “diversity and power of women’s stories”. The collection of 6,000 NFTs features messages of hope and inspiration in 10 languages. The vibrant colours and bold patterns, taking inspiration from fashion, feminism, and cultural diversity make the NFTs quite attractive. Launched just last month, the collection sold out and has so far amassed over $1 million in trade volume. 

Similar to many other female-led NFT projects, Remarkable Women’s focus on women empowerment goes beyond its artwork. Firstly, 10% of the primary sales go to the Fund for Women’s Equality. Secondly, 10% of all secondary sales are set aside for the Remarkable Women’s Impact Fund. Based on a community vote, this fund will support causes dedicated to women, justice, equality, and inclusivity. 

9. Long Neckie Ladies

Another inspirational female-led NFT project is Long Neckie Ladies created by 13-year-old girl Nyla Hayes. Touted as a “collection for dreamers”, Long Neckie Ladies is a fine art collection of 3,333 diverse female avatars. All the NFTs in the collection are unique and algorithmically generated from Hayes’ hand-drawn traits. What makes the pieces unique is their elongated neck, inspired by the young artist’s favourite dinosaur, the Brontosaurus.

With her NFT collection, Hayes created waves in the NFT space. After all, Long Neckie Ladies’ trade volume has already crossed $4 million on OpenSea, with a 0.569 floor. Remarkably, Hayes also created history as TIME Magazine’s 1st NFT Artist in Residence. Additionally, she has won several awards including NFT.NYC 2021 Emerging Artist of the Year and Future 50’s most influential people in tech in 2021. Besides, her celebrity supporters include Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon, and Logan Paul, among others.

10. Kumo x World Residents 

Kumo x World Residents is a collection of 6,666 NFTs from female artist Nikki Siu Hai. The Kumo Residents are generated from over 500 traits and feature nine different classes. These include Ape, Harajuku, Foodie, Creative, and Ninja, among others. So far, the project’s sales volume has reached $8 million.

Each Kumo Resident holder can become an explorer and roam the Kumo world, where they can meet other explorers. Together, they can also take part in expeditions. Apparently, the project uses a portion of sales to support children and mental health charities. Besides, the team is planning to release a children’s storybook NFT. Their roadmap also includes Kumochis (companion NFTs) and KxW coins. 

Female-led NFT projects like those mentioned above bring forth a much-needed change in the NFT space. However, this is just the beginning and we hope these projects inspire more women to join the space. Nonetheless, as a first step, the industry can champion diversity and inclusivity by supporting existing female-led projects in the space.
